PASTELS WORKSHOP
published by HarperCollins
The workshop approach to learning to paint is based on active participation by you, the student, under the guidance of a tutor - me! In this book, I have combined instructional teaching with practical work, and from the start, the emphasis is on the importance of developing an individual style rather than copying that of other artists. The book contains:
- PROJECTS - of varying degrees of difficulty, and with a system of self-assessment to monitor progress.
- EXERCISES - putting theory into practice
- DEMONSTRATIONS - developing a painting step by step
- METHODS AND MATERIALS - comprehensive guidelines to improve painting skills
- PRACTICAL TIPS - helpful hints and checklists
- IDEAS AND INSPIRATION - varied subject matter
- As well as my own work, I have included the work of many excellent pastel painters, illustrating a wide variety of styles, which reveals the versatility of this wonderful medium. There are approximately 200 superb illustrations!
There are chapters on the following subjects:
Pastel Techniques : Understanding Tone : Colour : Space and Perspective : Composition : Sketching : Choosing a subject : Still Life : Landscape : Seascapes : Figure : Abstraction : Finishing a Painting.
